was in 2008 when, thanks to Susana Bedoya , I got the wonderful book MamaPapa , who promptly showed up at Libroscocina.

few more followed - pots & cajamarca seasoning, and Spicy Picanterías Arequipa, ...- This allowed me to have a slight idea of the gastronomic activity that is being developed in Peru, which

addition to the activity carried out by the great Acurio - Cebiches, tiraditos and art raw fish - is truly important.

The fact is that for months that exchanged information and, following the earthquake Lorca, very close to my area, Susan is interested for my state. Fortunately I was able to reassure her and used to send an article -THE LEGACY OF ARAB AL-Andalus PERUVIAN FOOD- that appeared in CHASQUI therefore have relied on the FTAA summit, which was eventually suspended for riots and protests that took place in Arab countries.

clicking on the title, appears PDF , where you can read the full text. Anyway, I take to copy a few paragraphs of the letter of Susana Bedoya:

The pickled fish, a dish very popular and the fruit of cultural miscegenation, is likely to be of Arab origin. The name is iskebég which became escabetx . Later adopted the name we know. However, there are still discussions about the Roman or Arabic origin of this dish, but all matches is Arab.

CHRONICLES OF THE WORLD: ALEXANDER THE GREAT WORLD

FOREWORD

The Greek culture and thought , no doubt accounted for fireworks and vital intellectual history that are still lighted. You need only compare it to Babylon, the Jews or Egypt. And everything that we go back to them every time we rethink every aspect of our identity as a species. Greece after the great epic episodes previously reported in the previous post, was plunged into internal strife weakened Sparta much both as Athens.

battles waged by Alexander were the most crowded to the time.

But the power play would go a small region behind the mountains called Macedonia. Where a very clever king named Philip , longed for the unification of all Greece. Whenever I name, I remember that he Demosthenes harshly criticized in the assembly all the ambitious plans of Philip . They called their speeches: the 'invectives' , and the monarch allowed to express such passionate political speeches since the end of the day were in a democracy.

Alexander III of Macedon, better known as Alexander (Greek : Μέγας Αλέξανδρος , Megas Alexandros; 1 Pella, 20 or 21 July of 356 BC - Babylon , 10 or June 13, from 323 BC ) More info on Wikipedia.

The point is that Philip , ANSI also gain Persian empire, which already was no longer under the domination of men as ambitious and powerful as Darius or Xerxes . Philip was assassinated, but his son Alexander , his ambition would lead to new frontiers. There are three interesting stories and very symbolic on Alejandro :

Alejandro is the greatest cultural icons of antiquity, exalted as the most heroic of the great conquerors, Achilles one second, or vilified as a megalomaniacal tyrant who destroyed the stability created by the Persians. His figure and legacy has been present in history and culture of both West and East over more than two millennia, and has inspired the greatest conquerors of all time, from Julius Caesar to Napoleon Bonaparte .

The 1 st was with his legendary horse, Bucephalus . It was a 13 years old when her father and servants had acquired a splendid horse, wild and nervous. Vigorous, but impossible to tame. Alexander asked his father to allowed to mount, while the servants scolded him because wild horses could easily kill the boy. Alejandro seemed to observe that the horse was afraid of his own shadow, and managed to climb onto his back pulling on the reins and lifting his head toward the sun. His brilliance dazzled the horse that was paralyzed and confused. This time I took Alejandro to mount, and legend tells us that she whispered to Bucephalus : 'long walk with me, never walk in darkness. " And so it became his best friend and later named several cities with its name.

A fantastic picture of Alejandro and his men. you who are interested in the subject, I recommend you take a look at the Wikipedia , as they have a very good review of the various battles of Alexander .

The story with the hermit Diogenes, ideas like those of Buddha is also interesting. He said that that possessions only serve to hinder the simple reflection and welfare. Therefore, the eccentric sage off all, withdrew into a barrel almost naked and lecturing in the market square in Corinth, living independent and free. Alejandro wanted to know this strange man, so one day approached him wearing a radiant armor and helmet with plume waving in the wind and asked:

- 'I like you, ask me anything you want and I will grant '- Diogenes, who was comfortably lying in the sun said,' Look, King, I have a desire '

- ' Well, what is it about?

- 'I are doing shady, please stand back from the sun'

Alejandro are told, was impressed by these words and according to legend said

- 'If it were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes'

Gordian knot legend said that if someone was able to unleash a rein with their hands tied with extraordinary force, would own the world. Upon seeing this, Alexander took his sword and cut it in half. While everyone looked at him astonished he said

- 'will fulfill the ancient prophecy to conquer the world with a sword in my hand. "

Vs Alejandro the Gordian knot.

I can tell other adventures of Alexander , their downs and some defects. But I note your browser mood. All the lands he conquered, they are granted to his generals. Just wanted to find more places to understand people and create a world in which the conqueror does not submit, but adapt quickly in a short and continues. That earned him great troubles among his people. Even centuries later, the Romans would know to understand this spirit. He died at 33, and when asked by his successor, he replied: "The most worthy ' The next thing I did was war as his old had made the Greeks, and dividing by ambition without conscience wasting the enormous accomplishments of his former master. He pioneered the understanding between cultures.

Alejandro Only opened a path to q even today many do not just accept at all, myself included. I was impressed in the Oliver Stone film, when Alexander is walking around half shot and moving constantly followed by thousands of people, always looking beyond the mountains and of itself. Those who were behind walked with difficulty, as if they could not keep up.

The Greek in his tireless concern, loved learning new things, they took what they learned and take him elsewhere explaining most peaceful villages rushed to them. Were essentially iconoclastic, which I enjoyed most was to question old beliefs and religious systems disrupt others. This of iconoclasm can be fun, I love doing it myself, but sometimes the effect can be terrible. As an old challenges and secure way of life that might be better not to disturb.

Mosaic myth, the oldest Alexander against Darius.

The human race had survived and even thrived for thousands of years based on this philosophy. His spirit demanded that everything be revisited. The Greeks were not well received in all places where they made landfall. Mariners adventurers by nature, they embarked with the same value to companies making intellectuals to challenge the human race that outlined a new man to aspire to become. Literature, encouraged them to be. The Odyssey challenged them to adventure, cunning and daring.

on Alexander

Over the abyss of the ages, although many want to see it as a series of coincidences, there are glorious moments. People born like stars, makes things different. For historians, enthusiasts and lovers d battle, simply uttering the name of Alejandro causes emotion. H and wanted to add an epilogue to the fifth chapter, a new appendix devoted to the figure of this interesting character.

It is impossible to summarize in this post, all the memorable moments and most human of Alexander. I encourage you to discover if you do not know ...

I can not imagine anyone who has read about Chronicles of the Battle of Gaugamela (or Arabela - Land of the 4 Gods, now Iraq) and not been impressed with the intelligence and recklessness this man. Gaugamela has been without doubt one of the most epic battles in human history. Imagine for a quota of 250,000 (though the chronicles say they were twice) composed avanzadísimos tanks for the time, 12 elephants and a powerful cavalry and infantry, to face a group of 256 battalions of 45000 men. It was crazy.

Esther and Darius, probably after the defeat they suffered at Gaugamela this ...

who had been there to see such a contest, and admire as Alexander hurled Darius III himself with an entourage of only 1000 men riding. Alejandro is proof that a superior mind and discipline can accomplish anything. I'm not going to bore you use counting maneuvers, which are still working even today.

A scheme with the grand strategy of which was served to defeat Dario Alejandro. Click to enlarge.

The really fascinating for me to Alejandro , not only his amazing skills as a military strategist, his effective leadership or his incredible adaptability to new environment. In many ways, was the germ of the ideal of chivalry. The proto-leader, the man who makes it ALL, just a dream. I can not know the reasons of why this happened. In a sense, many historians argue that his behavior was logical: to invade the territories that threatened its borders. It is also said memory knew the Iliad and the Odyssey , and maybe that was the reason for his thirst for glory. And that compared with Achilles or Apollo himself .

the spectacular capture of Oliver Stone's film Alexander. I recommend it absolutely.

Aristotle, his mentor, also could have instilled a love for knowledge, but his early and clear choice for weapons does not denote a total devotion to philosophy. Alejandro was a curious man who knew the rules of the world. It was another time, other ideas in which human life is not worth as now, at least in our culture. We can not judge its iron with the current values. Like any character in ancient history, we have an incomplete mosaic, with many exaggerated versions. From his friend Ptolemy , narrator and companion in arms in the Oliver Stone film many later.

His army consisted of thirty thousand infantry and five thousand cavalry, according to those who say less. The most, give thirty-four thousand infantry and four thousand horses. Who knows ...

Power corrupts, and Alejandro had more than anyone in the history of mankind before. In his life certainly had lights and shadows, for having won it 90% of the known world ... I still wanted more. But it was not lust for power, like Agamemnon , which pulled the strings of his soul, but the spirit of Apollo. His dream was to create a universal heritage, inspired by the culture Helena. Aristotle, the wise and learned man of his age, he learned to plant the seed of fascination to know.

Although I have and I have not read, the novel's 1200 pages of Gilbert Haefen on which the film received great reviews.

The Greeks considered themselves superior as a civilization, and men ... like all the conquerors, and believe me that things do not change much throughout history. World War 2 is not far to try and Yankee imperialism, now in decline, continues with this idea. But when Alejandro entered Babylon, one of the cradles of human civilization, everything changed.

His admiration for the Persians and ostentatious rituals Eastern customs made it feel intoxicated by her beauty. His colleagues always reproached that he forgot his origins, and admonished him as easily assimilated these new ways of life. But that is what for me, makes great Alexander: his ability to adapt to a new world.

Promotional poster for the movie: Alexander the Great Did I mention how beautiful is this movie?

He was the pioneer, the great conqueror, man who had the great idea of creating a united world, a unique culture. This idea was subsequently made off the Roman Empire. But just the thought of an idea, a dream and a man moves thousands to a glorious destiny to greatness and a new way of looking at life beyond cultural prejudices. I find it fascinating.

Without it, nothing further had been beaten. Before I leave, I leave his epitaph:

"A grave is sufficient to whom the world is not enough"
